Wave Hill, Northern Territory |

Prehnite from Wave Hill, Northern Territory is the finest prehnite in the world. Prehnite is regarded as a rare precious gem and Australia has about 90% of the world's resource of this beautiful gemstone. The current deposit is being exploited by fossickers rather than developed by professional operators. However, this fine rare and precious gemstone, prehnite, will soon be available on the international market fashioned into beautiful jewellery and ornaments. Prehnite was discovered in the Wave Hill area of Northern Territory many years ago and. during the 1960's several local fossickers sold quantities of low to medium grade material to dealers in Victoria. This first shipment of prehnite was send to Germany for carving and then nothing was more was mined after the early shipment. During the 1970's, I had the good fortune to gain permission to access old mines reports at the Bureau of Mineral Resources in Darwin, prior to it being blown away by Cyclone 'Tracey'. After reading the reports, dating back to 1953, I decided to explore the possibilities of the area and purchased one of the first perpetual Northern Territory Mining Rights for the sum of $A0.50. On the first trip to Wave Hill, I realised the potential of the area to produce fine quality prehnite but also identified other reserves of significance. We first discovered the deposit of high quality prehnite in 1982. For the next several years we went back to the area and finally obtained mining tenements, and after extensive work on materials retrieved from our Exploration Licenses. We were later granted mining claims in the area. At the end of the 1980's we wrote a proposal to raise funds to mine the area and establish a value adding plant for the raw materials. At that time Australians were not prepared to invest in mining ventures due to the collapse of many high profile Australians. Since late 2000, we have been having negotiations with various associates and contacts throughout the world in order to commence working the deposit for gemstones and mineral specimens. A number of dealers have expressed interest in purchasing large quantities of raw material for processing and at this point in time we will be exploring the possibility of doing major exploratory work on this deposit later this year or early next year, 2004. Parties interested in buying large quantities of prehnite, for processing or resale, are invited to write to us, at the email address below, stating expressions of interest in the prehnite. There are many colours and qualities of material, as can be seen from the photographs on this page, but initially the material will be sold in two or three price categories. If you are interested in being amongst the first to purchase this beautiful material, please let us know where you are from (country), what annual volumes you would consider buying and also the frequency of ordering. Other gems and minerals will also be available and photographs of these may also be viewed below. For further information write to Gerald Pauley: sales@openallday.au.com N.B. During the first year of operation there will only be limited supplies of prehnite. |
