Or Carved Opal Australian opals for sale, opals for sale, Australian precious opal, harlequin opal, crystal opal, semi black opal, grey opal, white opal, milky opal, red flash opal, green opal, milk opal, pin fire opal, boulder opal, opal matrix, matrix opal and a wide range of fine quality cut and polished opals from Australia. We have a wide range of fine quality cut and polished opals from Australia and we will be adding to our inventory regularly. It's not a true Australian Souvenir if it is not made in Australia! Opals is a most fascinating and unique gemstone with it's beautiful and characteristic play of spectral colours. No two opals are identical and it is the variation and combination of colours that make opals unique in the realms of gemstones. Opal is Australia's National Gemstone and Australia produces 95% of the world's precious opal. Opal is found in a wide variety of rocks and Australian opal is regarded as the best in the world. See Our Cut and Polished Opals WHERE ARE THE OPAL FIELDS? The main opal fields in Australia are Coober Pedy (South Australia), Lightning Ridge (New South Wales), Lambina (South Australia), Mintabie (South Australia), Andamooka (South Australia) and White Cliffs (New South Wales). There are also a number of fields in Queensland producing Boulder opal and boulder matrix opals. These include Quilpie, Yowah (where they find the famous 'Yowah Nuts'), Opalton, Jundah, Winton, Kynuna and Kyabra. OUR INVOLVEMENT We have been cutting and polishing opal for almost 40 years and it is from the years of experience with dealing with precious opal that we have almost perfected a method of simulating genuine precious opal, this 'Queen of all gems". See Information on Opalus From 1965, we have supplied opal and opal products to retailers throughout Australia and overseas and, now through the internet, we are able to offer fine quality opals to the world. We have contacts on all the opal fields and gradually we will introduce a wide variety of gems and opals for you to choose from. Opal has long been prized by the wealthy and it is probably, with these people, that the rumour of opal being bad luck originated. Of course, we are educated today and are aware of the old practices which were instigated to force down the prices of opal. Today, opal is becoming a great investment as well as a wonderful collector's gem and one of the most beautiful gems for articles of personal adornment. ARTIFICIAL OPALS AND SIMULANTS Whilst attempts have been made to make opal synthetically, no-one has yet perfected it. As a result, most imitation opal should be classed as artificial and not synthetic as the so called 'synthetics' do not have the same composition as genuine opal. Our simulated opal, Opalus, has been developed to cater for the costume and fashion jewellery industry where high quality precious opal is cost prohibitive. Our simulated opals are an ideal gem for the wire wrap jewelry enthusiasts because they are not prone to crazing or cracking and will not break, chip or crack if dropped. No other invention has come close to creating the genuine and characteristic appearance of precious opal, or synthesising an opal, which can be produced at a lower cost than genuine opal. Our simulated opal, Opalus, is so realistic that even the miners and dealers at Coober Pedy have bought them for re-sale and our simulated opalised shells have been popular amongst the opal dealers on the field for many years, as souvenirs of the opalised shells found on the fields. For reference, opal is the birthstone for October, it is a soft and brittle gem so care must be taken when handling or wearing precious opal. Sometimes, fossils may be replaced by opal.
