This is a most unusual specimen found whilst prospecting in the area in 1982. The unusual nature of the agate deposition on the surface of the crystals questions the agate formation theory. Many other unusual pseudomorphs have also been found in the area.

Smoky quartz occurs in abundance in the Strathbogie ranges and crystals weighing as much as 250 lbs have been mined. This present deposit is only a surface indication and has yielded crystals up to 12".

This example is truly lovely carving and is representative of the quality of the smoky quartz found in the Strathbogie ranges. This piece weighs several pounds.

Other minerals are also found enclosed in the prehnite. The specimen on the lest has compact groups of acicular natrolite crystals.
